Assignment 1:

Childhood Drawing

  1. Think about what you used to draw as a child between the ages of 3 to 12. What was your favorite thing to draw ... again and again?

  2. Reproduce your favorite drawing – in the same style
    you used. Use markers or crayons etc. Use a sheet of white or colored paper standard printer size (8.5 x 11). No lined paper please.

  3. On a separate paper standard printer size (8.5 x 11) answer the following questions:

    1. Write a brief description of your drawing,
    2. How old you were when you drew it?
    3. Did you keep drawing? If not what age did
      you stop?

Course Description:  This course is a comprehensive study and presentation of visual images and designs that chronicle the socioeconomic, political, and philosophical evolution of Eastern & Western Civilization from ancient times to the present.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify stylistic and thematic characteristics of various art periods.

  2. Identify basic principles of art and discern the techniques used to create artworks studied.

  3. Display critical perception of the use and function of the arts and will have applied these to studio projects.

  4. Discuss the development of art and art styles from prehistory through the twentieth century.

  5. Adopt a greater sense of awareness of the role of the visual arts in every day life.
