Objectives:
To
implement advanced technologies of communication in the everyday
life of the academic community, and serve as a resource center
for the support of scholarly pursuits by faculty, staff, and students.
Serves
as a catalyst for the implementation of various media of communication
in the design and the development of innovative strategies and
methods of instruction/presentation for the promotion of academic
development and intellectual stimulation.
Through
the Office of Instructional Technology, Faculty, Staff, and students
are challenged with the following objectives:
Desktop
Publishing - Faculty, staff and students are encouraged
to develop competency in using Word processing and Desktop
Publishing, including the most common applications. The office
of Instructional Technology offers five workshops leading
to the mastery of MS Word, Word Perfect, ClarisWorks, etc.
Networking
- Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to develop competency
in Networking including E-mail and Web browsing. The office
of Instructional Technology offers several workshops leading
to the mastery of MS Mail, Outlook, Browsing the World
Wide Web with Netscape and Internet Explorer, Synchronous
Communications with ICQ, AOL Chat, etc.
Presentation
Technology - Faculty and Staff are encouraged to develop
competency in authoring presentations for classroom instruction,
including the utilization of one or more presentation packages.
Interested faculty members should be able to integrate text,
clip Art, imported images, video and sound to create computer
controlled audio-visual displays or multimedia presentations
of MS PowerPoint.
Distance
Instruction - Faculty are encouraged to develop competency
in authoring presentations for distance instruction, including
the utilization of one or more presentation packages. Interested
faculty members should be able to integrate text, clip Art,
imported images, video and sound to create computer controlled
audio-visual displays or multimedia presentations. OIT offers
several workshops leading to the mastery of Video conferencing
systems and Blackboard software.
Audio/Video
Production - Faculty, staff and students are encouraged
to develop competency in the collection and the composition
of audio-visual data, including the ability to originate,
design, and carry out the production of a show, a report,
or simply collect data. Seven workshops are offered leading
to the mastery of audio video production.
Interactive-Technology
-Faculty and Staff are encouraged to expand their competency
in the development of interactive media for their disciplines.
The Office of Instructional Technology will provide training
in at least one or more multimedia packages. Faculty are also
encouraged to acquire competency in the design of electronic
publications, involving the manipulation of text, graphics,
photographs, video, and sound. Through the Office of Instructional
Technology, faculty should be able to develop applications
for distribution through Internet, CD/ROMs, Laser disks,
or other computer-based formats. Nine workshops leading to
publishing interactive hypermedia applications are offered.
